#bobmarley #reggae #behindthemusic
Today, Bob Marley’s legacy is inescapable. First of all, most of his descendants are talented and successful musicians themselves. His Tuff Gong Recording Studio is still thriving and hundreds of thousands visit the various Bob Marley pilgrimage sites throughout Jamaica each year. Heck, Marley is a big reason why tourism continues to be an important industry there. Rita Marley has especially continued to preserve Bob’s legacy. The Wailers also continued after Bob’s death in various forms.
Bob Marley is who most people automatically think of when they think of the entire genre of reggae music. But Marley is not only the best-selling reggae artist of all time. He’s one of the best-selling ARTISTS of all time. In 1994, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. In 2001, he was awarded the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award.
Bob wasn’t like most pop musicians. He was spiritual. He was reflective. He was extremely generous. According to the historian Roger Steffens, he regularly donated money to at least 6,000 people every month. He never owned a house, yet bought many houses for other people. Bob’s music is unique in that it is political yet unifying. He used his music as a tool for social activism and as a global ambassador for both Jamaica and all African nations. Yet his music became just as popular with the rest of the world. Today, you’re just as likely to hear his music played at an American college fraternity party as you are at a party in Kenya. More than anything, his music is just uplifting. It just makes you feel good.
While Marley is easily one of the most influential musicians in history, his influence extends far beyond his music. He remains a symbol of Jamaican and African pride, social justice, and spiritual consciousness. And he continues to inspire new generations of fans around the world.

Well how cool is it to click on a video about the Pixies and hear the voice of Mr. Beat. No no no, I'm not a former student but I am a subscriber of Mr Beat, Even if I'm much older. It just makes me happy to know that there are people willing to put in the time and effort to explain history and politics to younger people in a clear and straightforward way. As for the videos about music, your tastes seem to be far edgier than I expected but right up my alley. Thanks again for all the hard work, but it does also seem to be a labour of love.

There is no way Led Zeppelin was to the '70s what the Beatles were to the '60s. Keith Richards said it all when he was asked what he thought of the band. (I can't remember his exact answer but it was something like this...) At least they came up with a name that fit...they never took off as a band, it was all Jimmy Page.

We always get the white racist perspective on Michael Jackson, never the black honest perspective that does not ignore known facts that prove he was innocent allegations from a court finding him unanimously innocent which is irrelevant to a racist or black person selling himself out, to the fact a FBI raid on his home found nothing, but a cartoon of a naked child in his home you would see in children's books which are not in anyway s*xual images, yet racist still try to use that to imply something was wrong. Not to mention the fact it was the promoters, advertisers and insurers of his tour generating billions taking place at the time who pressured him to pay the 23 million settlement as a small price to pay considering the billions at risk while Michael Jackson did not want to pay it. And not to mention the fact the boy Michael was accused of abusing made it clear when a grown adult that his parents told him to lie and he had not been abused by Michael. This information is of no interest to a racist of course. And as for Michael being accused after his death, it is of no interest to a racist that one of the accusers said he was abused regularly on a train in Michael's ranch, revealed to be lying because the train bin Michael's ranch did not exist until the claimed abuser was 27 years old. I could go on, but the white racists and black sell outs will keep fighting to destroy his name. Peace and love

I am a huge Supremes fan & we had this giant RCA TV set with a screen size of an iPad if it was square with round corners. The rest of that TV was a huge speaker & a gazillion TV tubes & wiring. Not one printed circuit board. Evidently it was like $500 in the late 40s brand new. A tube burned out about every week or 2, but most were cheap to replace. I remember watching the Beatles performing in Seattle in the coliseum & i was mesmerized watching a clip of that from Channel 4 news but u could barely hear the Beatles teenage girls were screaming then running up to a chain link fence that surrounded the entire basketball court which acted as a midway area for girls to jump the fence & dart to the stage, nobody made it cops caught every teenage girl & kicked her dumbass back outside. Anyways…the Supremes were my “Beatles” & were the 2nd rock musical group i had ever seem in my 5 years in age. I was hooked for life. But Dude, never ever did i ever hear them introduced as an African American band. Not only is the term seriously outdated black people never chose that word because they ain’t any more African than you or i am European. Aint nobody calling us European-Americans because DUH we are white. Well duh the Supremes are black so call them black because they is black as much as we are white. Nobody needs to remind us where their skin color came from, AFRICA, 430 years ago. That pretty much makes them more American than most Americans so please im asking you & everybody to stop using stupid phrases to identify people. Call them what they is but respectfully & aint nothing disrespectful about our colors. Also this is even worse, PLEASE STOP SAYING American Indian or Native American. They are the INDIGENOUS PEOPLE. They became Natives after the invasion, they became Americans only 100 years ago exactly on June 2nd, 1924 Congress finally announced the Indigenous people within our borders are effective immediately full blooded citizens of the USA. However individual states refused to allow the indigenous people to vote, Main was the worst. America & especially Congress are not perfect

They had such an interesting career arc. Some artists come out of the gate with a big hit. REM had a series of singles that got bigger and bigger over more than a decade until they finally reached superstar status. From "Radio Free Europe" to "Fall On Me" to "The One I Love" to "It's the End of the World" to "Stand" to "Losing My Religion" to "Everybody Hurts." They just kept getting more and more popular from the early 80s to the mid 90s.

I sadly was too young to see Michael Jackson perform in concert for his multiple albums, do to you know not being born... for context I was born in December '96. I have somewhere in my house to this day the ticket that I had fought to get and had several friends families pitch in money for me to go see. Michael Jackson's music opened up a world of sound his passing was untimely.
